The issues of glass production by the float method are considered. The possibilities of reducing the duration of the transition from one type of glass to another when working on one line, increasing the optical performance of float glass, etc. The developed methods allow improving the quality of glass, increasing the output of marketable products and expanding its range.

A method is proposed for producing ZrO ₂ microfibers by precipitation of zirconium hydroxide from zirconium-containing aqueous solutions of salts, followed by calcining to dioxide. The mechanism of interaction of the components of porcelain mass based on the Gusevsky stone in the presence of an additive of complex action - molasses molasses is considered. The possibility of its use as an environmentally friendly hardening additive in the manufacture of porcelain products based on unconventional raw materials by a single firing is shown. The composition and structure of thin films of copper, gold, and aluminum deposited on a glassy quartz substrate by a thermal vacuum method have been investigated. The composition of the film-substrate interface is analyzed. Tab. 1, ill. 2, bibliography: 8 titles.

It is shown that it is possible in principle to increase the strength of refractory granules by a factor of 1.5 - 2 by applying coatings on them based on silicon-containing compounds at elevated temperatures. It has been established that an increase in strength is achieved to a greater extent when a coating is formed with the structure of fine-crystalline sodium silicate, silicon oxide or glass; the strength of the granules increases with an increase in the thickness of the coating, while the hydrophobicity of the granules increases. A variant of the complex utilization of wastes generated at one of the enterprises of the chemical industry in the production of pyroxene sitalls is considered. The structure and properties of synthesized glass-crystalline materials have been investigated. Tab. 4, ill. 3, bibliography: 7 titles.

The influence of glass waste on the properties of ceramic wall materials has been investigated, the optimal composition of the charge has been developed, a pilot batch of bricks has been made in the conditions of existing production without significant changes in the technological regulations. The principal possibility of recycling glass waste from municipal waste is shown. Tab. 1, ill. 1, bibliography: 1 titles.

The data on the main operational properties of fused and cast and baked refractories, the use of which in regenerators of glass-making furnaces, provides a long service life of the packing without hot repairs to replace them. An assessment of the thermal efficiency of packing products of various shapes is given. Tab. 3, ill. 4.

In connection with the enactment of GOST 111-2001 "Sheet glass. Specifications" from January 1, 2003, the main reasons for the need to develop this document are considered, data on the real quality indicators of sheet glass presented on the Russian market are given, and the main differences between the new standard and the current GOST 111-90.

The methodology for assessing the technical level of quality and competitiveness of glass and glass products is considered. The nomenclature of consumer properties of glass household goods is proposed. Tab. 1, bibliography: 6 titles.
